This original linocut print features an image of a mandrake in a dark to a light spring green gradient. Hand carved and Hand printed on bright white archival quality paper. Total size of the print is 11x14 and ships unframed in a large rigid envelope.
When one thinks of a magical plant, the mandrake often comes to mind, especially the screaming infant of the Harry Potter universe or the charm placed under the bed in Guillermo Del Toro’s “Pan’s Labyrinth.” But the mandrake exists in magic outside of that world, in archaic magical and religious texts alike. Scott Cunningham writes about them in his encyclopedia of magical herbs:
“A whole mandrake root, placed on the mantle in the home, will give the house protection, fertility, and prosperity. Mandrake is also hung on the headboard for protection during sleep, carried to attract love, and worn to prevent contraction of illnesses. Where there is mandrake, demons cannot reside, and so the root is used in exorcism. Money placed beside a mandrake root (especially silver coins) is said to double, and the scent of the mandrake causes sleep.”
